Dear Candidate:
The Board of Election Commissioners wish to take this opportunity to welcome your involvement in the Electoral process.
This Board is responsible to conduct fair and impartial Elections on behalf of the citizens of Fall River. Regulations applicable to all candidates and their organizations, include:
- Please inform the members of your organization to be courteous and considerate toward all voters and not to obstruct entrances to and from voting sites.
- Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 54, Section 65 states: “No other poster, card, handbill, placard, pasters (commonly called stickers), picture or circular intended to influence the action of the voter shall be posted, exhibited, circulated or distributed in the polling place, in the building where the polling place is located, on the walls thereof, on the premises on which the building stands, or within one hundred and fifty (150) feet of the building entrance door to such polling place.”
- On Election day at individual precincts, candidates’ checkers or observers are allowed to remain in the building if they obey the wardens’ instructions. These observers are not allowed to talk with or disrupt Voters or Election Officials at any time during the Election. Names of voters are announced by the Election Officers. Do not ask them to repeat names. All checkers and observers must remain outside guardrails or its equivalent throughout the day and after the polls close.
Remember, Election Day is the voters’ day for expressing their personal choices. With your organization’s cooperation and consideration for each voter, let us work together to make our Elections exemplary.
